dogkisses for Roscoe

I’ve been trying to publish a post in this blog for several months or more, but after such a long time away from writing, the endeavor is challenging.

An honorable mention of Ruthie Mae, a wonderful dog, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2014 and now lives in my memories, feels like a good place to start.

Ruthie named this blog, “dogkisses,” with slight little kisses on my arm each time I reached for her bag of food.  She was forever a tender heart.  So sensitive.  So sweet.  Ruthie’s kisses felt like snowflakes melting on my skin.

Not long after Ruthie passed, my late friend, Laurie, a former fellow blogger who lived with chronic illness, also passed away.

I was sad.  I also had to move.  Again.  Life has been hard.

My writer’s voice seemed to have vanished for a while, but after settling into a new apartment, which meant that I could finally sleep, I gradually found myself making notes on random sheets of paper.

Also during my online absence, the bond I’ve always had with my blog and the blogging community as well, never abandoned my mind or heart, which I think is pretty cool.

Aside from the logistics of moving and an extreme backlash of severe pain from fibromyalgia, during and after my son and I moved two apartments, twice, I became exhausted. Utterly exhausted.

There is a lot I could say about the past two years and what led to my long absence, but that would take a while and more energy than I have today.

For now, I’d like to introduce you to my new and most special friend, Roscoe!  He’s a beautiful dog.  I don’t have many photos uploaded to this computer yet, but soon I’ll show you his beautiful hound-dog spots and multi-color coat.

No Words for this Face!

I’m pretty sure Roscoe is a mix of German Shorthaired Pointer and Bluetick Coonhound.  His face reminds me of a Husky.  His eyes are an unusual green.  He has wonderful long legs, enabling him to run fast and climb high too!  He’s a thin guy, but some of us just can’t catch a pound or two for long.

As I write, Roscoe reminds me only of a hound dog.  Whining all the time 😉

Roscoe and I have had a truly amazing journey together since we met at a rural shelter in April, 2016.  I hope to soon tell you about our adventures and for various reasons, a few several misadventures as well.

With luck and determination, I shall return soon.  Fingers crossed.  Thanks for visiting dogkisses!

Cheers!

    • Thank you for visiting and for the new year’s wishes! I just got a new dog! I can’t wait to write about her. I haven’t felt up to writing, but I think my dog, Bella, will help me. Bella graduated from a New Leash on Life program. She’s a small dog too. My son is working. I have to go get him now. I’ve been staying with him some and he doesn’t have WiFi. (Gotta get that). Thanks for the link! I will surely check it out. Seems like tick disease is responsible for so many health issues that I have.

I hope you and your family are doing well. It’s really nice to hear from you.

I’ve lost several people over the past year. That’s been tough.

I’m hopeful for the new year. I need to email you. I haven’t checked the beetlehound address in a long time. I’m not sure you have my dogkisses address. Take good care. Hope I’m blogging a bit soon!

      Love,
      Michelle, and sweet little Bella!

  4. Moving IS exhausting! I can relate. Done it recently myself. I also was away from my blog for more than a year. Getting back into the groove of writing can take some time, but we can do it. Roscoe is a beautiful dog! My best wishes to you and Roscoe.

  5. Checking in with bloggers today, pouring out some hope to you in your journey. Life is not easy, and we are given the opportunity to lift up one another when the need arises, to share experiences in the hope that it helps ease the pain or at the very least gives company in the hard walk. Unseen pain and illness is difficult but especially when others can’t, won’t, don’t understand that the pain is real and debilitating (I have some in my family as well as know people suffering with this) so my hope is you have understanding people surrounding you. And never give up!

Was your blogging friend who passed, Laurie F. from Hibernation Now? I think that was the name of

    • Thanks Wendy! I miss blogging! I replied on your blog about sweet Roscoe. Living it up at the beach he is. He is so beautiful in the photos his new mom sends but I miss him. I focus on him having a good life with the support he needed. Also, Laurie would have liked Roscoe thou I can imagine her telling me to take care of myself. She was always thinking of others ♡♡♡

Hi Dogkisses, and the whole communifty here. You have brought up a remarkable point and I found it in a song of what dogs really do provide. They help us see ourselves by loving us so unconditionally! May you grow and shine and be filled with peace. Watch this video, it’s pretty and wise. ❤️❤️😁

Michelle, I haven’t written in so long! Please know I have tried to keep up with your blog as much as I am able to comprehend. I have not stopped caring about you and your many beautiful stories. Mostly I have felt sad that you lost another sweet doggy in Roscoe. I have thought much about that. Have you been able to visit the sanctuary and knock long enough to awaken him? Sleeping dogs can be slow to awaken. I’m sure he would greet you with happiness and dog kisses and would recognize you when he smelled you. Dogs are such faithful and loyal companions and I think they need us as much as we need them. Perhaps a would bring you some comfort in this cruel world.. dogs never forget a face. blessings to you — and I hope things will soon be better that you can start writing again, we miss you!

    • Thank you! I haven’t visited Roscoe. I hope I get to though. Maybe before wintertime. I get updates and pictures from his new family. He looks happy now and they say he is doing much better. I miss him but yesterday, I was thinking of him and a smile came to my face. It grew and I was feeling happy for him. The most recent photo of him was incredible and I think really helped move me forward. Maybe I will have a new dog soon. I sure hope so.

Thanks for writing! I hope you are doing well. I miss blogging. Maybe I will hear from you again before too much time passes. Take good care.

      Peace.

  8. I am so sorry that you had to rehome your beautiful hound mix. But is is best when one is ill and can’t provide a pet with their particular needs. I had to give up my Aussie cattle dog about three year ago now. I was very careful to place her with a man and his wife and three daughters. He was ex-military and fell in love with her photo on FB. Zoey and he hit it off from the start I was and am very pleased that she is so doing well as a house dog who often gets to go on rides with the man of the house.

I so hope that by now you are feeling much better. For some reason I just never visited your blog although I was/am a follower.

    Best regards,
    Yvonne

    • Hi Yvonne!

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting!

Your story is uplifting. It’s good to know someone who had to rehome. It’s a different type of grief.

Roscoe got a lovely home and family. They have everything that he needed. I’m also glad he got a dad. He needed that too. They are camping in a fifth wheel at the ocean. The Mom said Roscoe loved watching her prepare it for the trip. Including Roscoe, they have 4 dogs! He has a girlfriend too.

Some nights are long. He slept by my side. He was my medical assistant too. He served to help me be motivated to get outside. I live with pain and a dog is the only medicine that works for me to prevent depression. I’m just hanging on for now.

Thanks again for sharing. I really appreciate your story. I’m glad your dog got a great home too!

      Affectionately,

      Michelle.

      • I am so sorry for your pain. I hope that you can get a pet. Cats don’t require much care and they don’t need exercise. Maybe getting one from the shelter that is on the euthanasia list wood be so rewarding to save a life. Animals know when they have been saved. Good luck with getting a pet- dog or cat. You really need a companion. My animals keep me alive. No two ways about it. I live for my animals.

        Fond regards,
        Yvonne D.

    • Paul, thanks for your message. I’ve been putting off communicating and writing continues to be difficult.

Roscoe went to live with a new family. My heart shattered. He has a good family though. He has a pack. They sent me photos and videos. In each one, another dog, Pippa, who is also part GSP, is always very close to him. She sleeps beside him. He has a fenced yard and doesn’t have to ride in cars or bark so hard all the time, due to the stressful situations he didn’t like.

Fatigue from tick fever and other conditions just got the better of me. I simply couldn’t provide the environment he needed.

I appreciate so much your input. Your words still linger in my mind. I still wonder if I did the right thing. People thought I rehomed him because of his behavioral issues, but that is not the case. He was a grand dog! It was me. My conditions. And, that hit me hard.

I don’t know when I will ever be able to write/blog again. I have so much I want to write. I can only hope that my circumstances change so that I can find myself again. Without writing, I am rather lost.

      Your friend,
      Michelle.

        • Thanks Paul. My apologies for disappearing. I have good days and bad. Roscoe got a great family and I am trying to focus on that. They send me pics and updates. A couple videos too. He isn’t the same as in my pics, but I can see that he’s calm. His girlfriend Pippa is always close by him. Now, even the small dog is close and the older male GSP too! I will try to write you soon. I’m figuring out a lot of things like if I should move sooner or later and deciding on medical procedures. I hope so much that I get the strength to write again soon!

          Warmly,

          Michelle.

        • Hi Adam! Yes, I agree, Roscoe’s eyes are so beautiful! I wish I’d had my camera today in the snow. He was entirely happy and I thought, in his element.

Roscoe special needs, particularly his separation anxiety, continue to concern me deeply. I haven’t written about this on my blog, but I hope to very soon.

Thanks for your comment and happy new year to you as well.
